You can take the first step toward a healthier you by making better food choices for you and your family!  Eating healthy will help you lower your risk for diseases such as heart disease and high blood pressure. 

Listed below is some information that will help you shop and eat healthy on a budget:   

Farmers market program

  • This program helps people find places to buy healthy foods in the communities they live in. 
  • These markets stock a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. 
  • Many of these markets now take SNAP/food stamps and Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) vouchers.

SHARE food program

  • SHARE stands for Self-Help and Resource Exchange.
  • This program allows you to receive about $35 worth of fruits, vegetables, and frozen meats for half the prices, as long as you also commit to 2 hours of community service.
  • Anyone is able to take part in this program.

Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)

  • The WIC program helps provide healthy foods to low-income pregnant women, infants, and children up to age 5. 
  • The program also helps participants get good health care and health information.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

  • SNAP is also known as the food stamp program.
  • SNAP helps low-income families afford healthy foods at the grocery store.
  • Those who become eligible will get an electronic benefits transfer (EBT) access card to buy food at the grocery store.
